Mrs. Cortell
LEAD TEACHER FOR HAPPY CAMPERS
What are your favorite moments with students?
My favorite moments with my students is simply getting in on the fun with them and hearing their giggles, but also seeing their brains turning in the classroom as the world around them, the world God created, is coming to life in their minds! What do you want your students to gain from having known you? I simply hope to give them even just a glimpse at the amount of love that Jesus has for them! How do you inspire your students to love learning? Having the opportunity to teach through the lens of God’s creation and helping them to realize that He has a purpose in mind for every single thing I believe really helps! Having the posture of a constant learner myself even though I am their teacher sets a certain tone, too. |

What do you want your students to gain from having known you?
The greatest thing I could ever hope is that my students would see Jesus in me in such a way that they would desire to love and follow Him all their life.
What are your favorite moments with students?
My favorite moments with the children have been times when we are gathered on the floor reading. I love when a book captures their attention!
How do you inspire your students to love learning?
Learning is contagious. Students can tell when I am excited about learning there is a better chance that they will also be excited.

What is the most important life lesson you want your students to learn in your class?
Three words: Jesus loves me. What are your favorite moments with students? Oh, the little moments! I love jumping around being crazy with the students, and I love to see them smile and learn. I love the moments when a student has been working on learning something difficult and then they accomplish that skill. Those are moments that I just want to throw a party! How do you get the results you want each child to achieve? Step by step. Achievement looks so different for each student. If I can encourage them and walk side by side with them, eventually results will come. |

What do you want your students to gain from having known you?
I want them to learn that God has a plan for them! They are special!
What are your favorite moments with students?
I love getting into stories with them whether it’s a Bible story or a fairy tale.
What is the most important life lesson you want your students to learn in your class?
I want to plant the seed that Jesus calls us to love others more than ourselves. That may mean allowing someone else to walk in line in front of me even though I got there first, or to share a toy even though I don’t want to.

What do you want your students to gain from having known you?
More than anything, I want my students to know that they are LOVED exactly the way they are. God made us all unique and individual…and that uniqueness and individuality should be embraced wholeheartedly!! As a language teacher, I want my students to be exposed to different cultures and different kinds of people and to see that being different is not something to be ashamed of or ridiculed for, but instead something to be proud of and celebrated! We can all become better people by learning to accept and appreciate other people’s differences. There is definitely beauty found in variety.

Why do you love DC preschool?
I love that all our classes are Biblically based. Teachers have the opportunity to connect all lessons back to the Bible. One of my favorite things is to hear the kids pray throughout the day. They are amazing. I hope that students learn to try new things from me (even foods you think you may not like) and not to be afraid of making a mistake.
